    Steering Committee Minutes-July 2003

    Meeting of Steering Committee
    Publishers Association of Los Angeles (PALE)
    July 23, 2003

    Members Present: Jeff Black, Susan Goland, Carolyn Allen, Les Boston (tardy), Sharon Goldinger, Dan Poynter, Gary Young

    Jeff presented a draft of by-laws as the first order of business. Not all present had studied the draft. The vote for adoption was four ayes and three abstentions,.

    Carolyn presented a list of applicants who were accepted for membership in PALA.

    There was discussion of membership strategy with a sense that PALA should attract members with the programming.

    Among program topics and speakers or panelists named were:
    Jon Kremer on marketing (Susan will contact him)
    Aaron Silverman of SBC
    Ron Friend—mid-point trade in Santa Barbara
    Miriam Bass on distribution (Jeff will develop a program on distribution)
    Sales reps
    Foreign rights
    Electronic E-mail (Jeff will work on program for November)

    Decisions for September, October, and November programs will be made in terms of availability of speakers.

    The web plan and web site design were approved.

    Jeff presented a list of resources compiled from responses of members. The list, a work-in-progress, was to serve as starting points for the general meeting.

    The business meeting was adjourned to begin the general meeting.
